Lord's Cupboard (scroll down for updates)

Our food assistance program began in 2001.  Through cash donations and hours of dedicated service each month, we provide food and hospitality to hungry families in our community.

Lordscupboard6The organization "Care to Share" registers each family and schedules the appointments.  Families arrive at the Lord's Cupboard and select from a variety of fresh, frozen and canned food choices that meet their personal needs.

If you want to make a difference in the community, consider joining us!  We need volunteers to serve in the Cupboard for two hour shifts at least one Saturday per month.  We also need hands (and backs) to pick up food at the food bank, to unload it and stock shelves.

 Lordscupboard5

We always can use more funding and supplies, so please consider a monetary or food donation!  Contact us for more information.

If you are in need of assistance from The Lord's Cupboard, please contact Care to Share at 503-591-9025 and they can set the appointment for your trip to TLC!

Your generosity is keeping us open and sharing our wealth of resources.  If anyone is available for a few hours a month, we are in need of people power to serve our customers as well on Saturdays and to help with stocking and shelving products.  Please see or call Linda Smith (503-860-6696) or Myra McCarthy (503-259-0592) for specifics on training as soon as possible.

TLC Update May 27, 2017

As some of you may know at this point, we are in discussion with the Food Bank about winding down our hours at The Lord's Cupboard due to lack of volunteers.  For that reason we are not requesting food items at this time and will spend those funds that have been donated to purchase what may be needed.  You have all been incredibly generous with your donations and we will continue to accept those that have been designated for the Cupboard prior to this announcement.

We thank you.

TLC Update May 4, 2017

As always when we have a heavy weekend of business, the gaps in supplies are obvious and we did serve 14 households this week. Our greatest gaps are:

Ramen

Condensed Soups: Cream of Celery; Vegetable Beef

Beef Broth

Canned Vegetables: Carrots; Mixed Vegetables; Tomato Paste

Canned Fruits: Pears

Canned Meals: Chef Boy Ar Dee style

Canned Pinto Beans

Dry Black Beans

Spam

Bars of bath soap

We've been informed by the Food Bank that our fresh produce will be a bit reduced for a couple of months until the new yield comes so we will be depending a fair amount on making up for that in canned products.

Anything you are able to do to help is greatly appreciated.

Canned Beans: Garbanzos and Pintos

Canned Pears and Mandarins

Canned Spinach,

Diced Tomatoes, and

It is the end of the month this week so we can expect another fairly full schedule most likely.

TLC Update April 22, 2017

We have been using up our usual supplies of products for our families in need. Beef Broth

Ramen Noodles

Soups: Cream of Celery; Vegetable Beef

Canned Carrots and Canned Spinach

Canned Beans: Garbanzo Beans and/or Pinto Beans

TLC Update January 26, 2017

We have distributed lots of food again over the past weekend so give you an idea of what our greatest shelf needs are at this point. We do an inventory each week to define our needs realizing that there is a great deal of repetition in the needs list. And this week's list includes:

Condensed Soups: Bean with Bacon; Vegetable Beef; and Chicken Noodle

Ramen Noodles

Canned Fruits: Pears and Mandarin Oranges; and always Pineapple Chunks

Packaged/Canned Meals: Chili Meal helpers, such as Hamburger, Chicken, and Tuna

Canned Vegetables: Carrots; Beets; and Spinach

TLC Update December 9, 2016

With Christmas just around the corner we are trying hard to help raise funds for Christmas dinners through our local Safeway on TV Highway and hope to be able to distribute those dinners we get before Christmas. It is a busy season and people are seeking lots of help! We appreciate all you do to keep our shelves supplied on a weekly basis.

And we are always looking for people willing and able to learn the ropes of serving our population. Happy Christmas to everyone!!

Thanks to Safeway's Santa Buck's program we were able to provide 28 families with Turkey dinners for the holidays.  I want to thank Faith Bennett and Elaine Johnson for their help distributing the dinners Wednesday evening.

Remember we already gave away 64 Turkey dinners for Thanksgiving as part of Safeway's Turkey Bucks. That's a total of 92 Turkey dinners.  Safeway is extending the program thru 12/31/16 so we should have a few more dinners to give away the first of 2017.  Maybe we'll hit 100!

Canned Beans and/or 1lb. packages of Dried Beans (such as Garbanzos, Black Beans, Navy Beans and Red Beans).

We are getting some wonderful contributions of fresh vegetables from our Community Garden partners weekly and are most grateful for their hard work.  And always we are grateful for the generosity of all of you in whatever form that comes.

TLC update, August 25, 2016

We are getting low on more things as we go through the month. Anything you can add is a blessing to our customers at The Lord's Cupboard.

Canned Vegetables: Spinach and Beets

Canned Fruits: Pineapple and Mandarin Oranges

Condensed Soups: Chicken Noodle; Bean with Bacon; Vegetable Beef; Creamed Soups

Mayonnaise

Hamburger/Chicken Helpers

Ramen Noodles

As school starts, vacations end, and the weather cools we are likely to see more families coming back. All of the above products are popular and seem to fly off the shelves as fast as they arrive. Any and all of your help is greatly appreciated.

TLC Update, August 10, 2016

We are once again in a position to accept used, but clean plastic bags if you have any collected. And, of course, any of the following items would be greatly appreciated.

Condensed Soups - Creamed or Regular

Beef Broth

Ramen of any kind

Canned Pinto Beans and/or Garbanzo Beans

Canned Meals, such as Chef Boy Ar Dee

Chili or Baked Beans

Canned Fruit Cocktail, Pineapple, Peaches and Pears

Canned Spam

We served 13 families this weekend and hope to continue to do so with your continued help as you are able.

TLC Update, August 4, 2016

We are continuing to struggle to keep some of our shelves full - namely those condensed soup shelves! Anything can help but we repeat the same calls weekly because they empty weekly. Each household that shops at our pantry gets between 5 (for a household of one person) and 13 (for households of 6 or more persons) condensed soups. That means we average giving out over 100 cans of condensed soup and/or Ramen each week. No wonder our shelves empty so quickly.

The same numbers apply to canned/boxed meal products. And we potentially distribute 15 to 20 dried bean products weekly. All of this is to explain why you keep seeing the same products requested.

Condensed Soups: Chicken Noodle; Bean with Bacon; Vegetable Beef; Creamed Soups and Ramen Noodles

Condiments: Ketchup and Mayonnaise

Canned Beans (considered a meal offering): Garbanzo Beans; Black Beans

Canned Vegetables: Spinach

Cold Cereals and Oatmeal offerings

And most anything you have in your food cupboards and closets.

We thank you all for your contributions that help to fill our shelves.

TLC Update, July 28, 2016

Trying to stay ahead of the demand for certain items in The Lord's Cupboard is challenging. The same items keep appearing weekly on the list of needs because we are not keeping ahead of the demand very well, especially of condensed soups. Canned meals, such as Chili and Chef Boy Ar Dee are in big demand. Canned fruits, like Pineapple and Mandarin Oranges as well are in big demand. We are continuing to serve 50+ families a month and around 200+ individuals in those families. If you can help us fill these needs in any way, your contributions will be greatly appreciated. Priority needs at present:

Mayonnaise

Canned Condensed Soups (both Creamed and not creamed)

Canned Fruits (Pineapple and Mandarin Oranges)

Canned Meals (Chili and Chef-Boy-Ar-Dee style offerings)

Canned Spinach and Canned Carrots

Cold Cereals

Thank you for your consideration for this worthy cause.

TLC Update, July 21, 2016

Of course, we have received some valuable donations from all of you. They go out to our families almost as soon as they come in to us. Repetition, repetition! Having trouble staying ahead of the curve on some products and on volunteers, too. Whatever you can do is a great help. Greatest needs this week are:

Soups, soups, and more soups (except tomato soup);

We need Creamed soups: Celery, Chicken and Mushroom and any others

We need Condensed soups: Chicken Noodle; Vegetable Beef; Bean with Bacon and any others

Mayonnaise

Bars of Bath Soap

Canned Garbanzo Beans and other white beans Dry Black Beans

Canned Vegetables: Spinach, Carrots

Canned Fruit: Mandarin Oranges; Pineapple

Cans of Chili

100% Juices

Children are home for the summer for lunches which may account for the large volume of canned soups that get used, although they certainly are a year around product. All of the above products are in great demand and supplies go quickly. We try to shop weekly for the big gaps which takes considerable funding. We are fortunate to have the generosity of so many of you. All that you do is appreciated.

TLC Update, July 14, 2016

Although only 11 families were served at The Lord's Cupboard this weekend, 63 individuals are fed in those 11 homes. That means a lot of food was distributed and once again we are in need to fill gaps. Our present greatest needs are for:

Mayonnaise

100% Juices

Creamed Soups - Celery, Chicken, and Mushroom primarily

Condensed Soups - Chicken Noodle; Vegetable Beef; Bean with Bacon; and others

Canned Fruits - Pears; Pineapple, and Peaches

Ramen - Chicken; Beef; and Oriental

Canned Garbanzo Beans, Dried Black Beans

Canned Vegetables: Spinach; Carrots; and Yams

We'd still love to hear from anyone who has an interest in serving in The Lord's Cupboard on Saturdays for a 3 hour period once a month or so. If you are at all interested contact Myra McCarthy @ Myra.McCarthy@nike.com">Myra.McCarthy@nike.com or Linda Smith @ smithder@teleport.com">smithder@teleport.com. We appreciate all your thoughts, prayers and deeds to help us help our neighbors.

TLC Update, July 7, 2016

Well, Independence Day celebrations are over for 2016 but, by no means is the need for food. The Oregon Food Bank just finished their biggest fundraiser with the Blues Festival this past weekend. They collected many less cans of food than in previous years since the effort was primarily to collect funds through an entrance fee necessary to get into the Festival. What that means to The Lord's Cupboard? We may be getting less in canned goods and buying more foods through the Food Bank at a significantly reduced rate. But we cannot always buy what people want from the Food Bank and count on your generosity to fill those holes in our provisions. Our biggest needs this week are:

Condensed Soups: Creamed and otherwise, such as Bean with Bacon and Chicken

Noodles and Vegetable Beef Canned Fruits: Pineapple; Peaches; Pears; and Mandarin Oranges

Canned Vegetables: Spinach and Carrolts

Canned Beans: Black and Garbanzo

Canned Chili

1 or 2lb. bags of Dried Beans: Black; Red; and Navy

Cold Cereals

Ramen Noodles

Bars of Bath Soap (we try to offer one bar to every family we serve)

Whatever you can do supplements what we have to buy through financial donations.

We cannot serve ANY homemade or previously opened products. Your help is greatly appreciated.

TLC Update, June 29, 2016

Of the 13 families referred to The Lord's Cupboard for service this past weekend half were families of 6 or more individuals. That number of families doubles the amount of food we distribute even though a great deal of what they get is fresh produce which we are able to get through the Food Bank. Nevertheless, we furnish basic canned goods and supplies which we must buy or get through your generous donations of money or supplies.

Our greatest needs at this time are:

Bath Soap Bars (each household gets one)

Hamburger and Chicken Helpers

Canned Beans: Pinto Beans and Garbanzo Beans

Canned Dinner offerings such at Chef Boy Ar Dee

Canned Chili

Condensed Soups: Chicken Noodle; Vegetable;

Creamed Soups for cooking, such as

Celery and Mushroom

Canned Fruits: Pineapple, Peaches; Mandarin Oranges

100% Fruit Juices

Dried Beans: Red; Black; and Navy

Canned Vegetables

Spinach; Tomato Paste; and Stewed Tomatoes

Thank you in advance for anything you can do and for all you have done.

TLC Update, June 23, 2016

We've served 15 families this past weekend and pretty well emptied shelves again.

But once again most of the emptying is on the same shelves.

In order of need at the moment:

Meal Helpers: Hamburger and/or Chicken

Bars of Bath Soap

Canned Pineapple and/or Pears

Cans of Chili

Beef and/or Chicken Broth

Condensed Chicken Noodle and/or Vegetable Beef Soup

1 or 2 lb. packages of Black, Navy and Red Beans

Tomato Paste

Ramen Noodles

Canned Tomatoes: Stewed, Whole and/or Crushed

Many children and adults are counting on us and voice their thanks to us for your contributions.

TLC Update, February 18, 2016

Our attendance for appointments this past weekend

at The Lord's Cupboard was a bit lower

shorter but never non-existent.

The Lord’s Cupboard
We've had a bit of a slow start this month but still have lots of need
for donations.  Our list of needs remains pretty much the same as those
donations that do come in go right back out and constantly need
replenishment.  If you are able to help we are particularly low on the
following supplies:

Condiments:  Mayonnaise, Ketchup
Condensed Soups:  Chicken Noodle, Bean with Bacon, Vegetable Beef
Chicken and Beef Broth
Canned Fruits:  Peaches and Pineapple
Canned Vegetables:  Beets; Carrots; Peas; Spinach; Tomatoes; Tomato Paste
Dried Beans:  Garbanzo; Navy; and Red
Canned Meats:  Chicken; Ham; and Spam
Canned Chili
Cold Cereals

If you are able to supply any additions to the shelves your donations
are so much appreciated.  The last few weeks of the month are especially
hard for many folks to fill their food supplies after paying all their
other monthly bills.  Your generosity has continued to make all of this
possible and we thank you for each and every donation.

This mission to provide temporary shelter for families with children, currently provides for 3families
.

We honor His lessons to us by feeding our hungry neighbors.

TLC Update, December 10, 2015

TLC News: September 20, 2015

First I would like to say, The Lord's Cupboard has lost a wonderful
friend and volunteer when Ralph Smith passed away on 9/12/15.  We owe Ralph a deep debt of gratitude for all he did to get us set up in the
church facility out of which we currently operate.  He, also,
volunteered in the Cupboard and was always quick to respond to any
expressed need.  We will miss him and his smile and good nature!
Our current needs are for:

Hearty Soups
Ramen Noodles
Chicken Noodle Soup and Vegetable Beef Soup
Beef Broth
Canned Spinach, Whole Kernel Corn
Dry Garbanzo and Red Beans
Canned Garbanzo Beans
Canned Mandarin Oranges
Meal Helpers, such as Hamburger, Chicken and Tuna Helpers
and always, Cold Cereals

You keep us supplied and we keep our customers fed.  We thank you

TLC News: September 13, 2015

Due to the holiday, the Lord's Cupboard served fewer families this weekend.  Despite that, we have continuing needs for replenishment as seen below:

Hearty Soups - a variety of kinds (seriously depleted)
Ketchup
Canned Pineapple
Ramen Soups
Dried Beans (Garbanzos, Black, Red)
Canned Pinto Beans
Chef Boyardee type canned meals

Now that schools are back in session and the holiday behind us, we can expect that referrals will pick up again in the coming weeks. All you are able to do is greatly appreciated by those who receive the products you donate.

Reminders: Please save your nickels, dimes, and dollars in support of Pat Eagle as she is fundraising for JDRF One, named for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation for Type One Diabetes. Pat will participate in the Walk for JDRF later this month.

TLC News:  August 30, 2015

The Lord's Cupboard has served 17 households this past week and
weekend.  Our shelves are, of course, in need of replenishing with
anything but especially the following products:

Hearty Soups
Mayonnaise
Mustard
Canned Hams, Tuna, Chicken, Spam
Canned Mandarin Oranges
Cans of Chef Boyardee products
Bars of Bath Soap
Canned Stewed or Whole Tomatoes
Condensed Vegetable Beef Soup
Ramen - any
and, always, Cold Cereals

We hope everyone has had a pleasant summer and those who deal with returns to school will have a good school year ahead.  We will be
continuing to try to supply as much variety for food and personal care
products as we can for all our neighbors in need and thank you for your help in this endeavor.

TLC News: August 9, 2015

We served 13 families in The Lord's Cupboard and, of course, have
another list for any who can help fill the gaps in supplies.  As always,
there are lots of repeats on this list as we use up supplies we get from
week to week quickly.  One new item stands out as we have not asked for
cans of tuna fish for some time but our supplies are depleted now.

Tuna Fish
Canned Meats - Spam, Chicken, Ham, and Beef
Hearty Soups (not condensed)
Condensed Soups - Chicken Noodle, Bean with Bacon, Cream of Celery
Ramen - any kind
Ketchup
Canned Vegetables - Spinach, Beets, Diced/Stewed/Whole Tomatoes, Mixed
Vegetables
Canned Garbanzo Beans
Packages of Dried Beans - Black, Red, or Navy

Any donations are most welcome.  We continue to look for volunteers for
both service in The Lord's Cupboard and on Monday mornings at Care to
Share, our referral resource.  Please be in touch with Linda Smith
(503-860-6696 or e-mail: smithder@teleport.com">smithder@teleport.com) or Myra McCarthy
(e-mail:  myra.mccarthy@nike.com">myra.mccarthy@nike.com) if you are able to volunteer with us
or know someone who might be interested. Volunteers do not need to be
attending our church as we are a non-sectarian service to our community.

TLC News: July 30, 2015

TLC served 16 families this past weekend.  With all of
your donations we have been able to keep abreast of most of the needs but the need to refill those shelves never ends.  What goes out, must
come in, like the waves of the seas, in order to continue to nourish a
continuing stream of neighbors in need.  Our highest needs this week are
for:
Hearty Soups (not condensed)
Condensed Soups - Cream of Celery, Vegetable Beef, and Chicken Noodle
Cold Cereals
Canned Vegetables - Sliced Beets, Spinach, Whole Kernel Corn, Diced Tomatoes
Canned Beans - Garbanzos
Dried Beans - Black, Navy, and Garbanzos
And always, Cold Cereals!

In August we are expected to provide 2 volunteers every other week for 3
hours on Monday mornings to take calls for Care to Share to schedule
appointments at the pantries (including The Lord's Cupboard) in the Care
to Share area for returning clientele.  We have had scant response so
far for our continuing pleas.  It is our hope that this has more to do
with summer activities and that we might find more people willing to be
in a pool of people willing to be trained and serve in this very
necessary role if we are to continue to keep this service going.  Since
this is the primary source of referrals to The Lord's Cupboard, we are
in great need of volunteers.  If you can see your way to exploring this
volunteer opportunity, please call Linda Smith (503-860-6696 and PLEASE
leave a message about your interest) or e-mail tlc@aumc.org.">tlc@aumc.org.  We
sincerely hope to hear from some of you.  And we thank you for all that
you have and continue to do to serve our community.

TLC News:  July 19, 2015

We served another 14 families in The Lord's Cupboard this weekend and have our usual list of holes in supplies with we need to try to
resupply.  If you can help us, we greatly appreciate anything you can
do.  We know many people are away and hopefully enjoying travels,
friends, and family.  We'll welcome all back in time but our needs don't go on vacation, it seems, so we keep asking and accepting all we can get.

Peanut Butter - highest on our weekly list of needs
Cold Cereals - always up there on the list of needs as well
Canned fruits - Mandarins, Peaches, Pears, and Pineapple all in short        supply
Condensed Soups - Chicken Noodle, Bean with Bacon, Cream of   Celery
Canned Vegetables - Spinach, Diced Tomatoes
Meal helpers, such as Hamburger and Chicken Helpers
Condiments - Ketchup
Chef Boyardee offerings

And we are looking for a few volunteers who can train and fill vacancies in a sit down position at a computer 3 hours on a Monday morning once or twice a month at Care to Share.  If you have 3 hours, an understanding of basic computer skills, and a desire to fill this very much needed service to keep us in the business of meeting the needs of our neighbors, please call Linda Smith at 503-860-6696 or e-mail at
smithder@teleport.com">smithder@teleport.com about volunteering at Care to Share.

TLC News:  July 12, 2015

Despite the July 4th holiday, The Lord's Cupboard served 11 families on the 4th and sustained more gaps on our shelves.  We especially low on Peanut Butter as we have used up all of our reserve.  And we certainly thank everyone who has tried to help to fill that shelf! But, of course, that is one of several needs.

Peanut Butter (primarily creamy)
Chicken Noodle Soup
Cold Cereals
Canned fruits:  Peaches, Mandarin Oranges
Meal Helpers
Canned Meal offerings, such as Chef Boyardee
Canned Vegetables:  Whole Kernel Corn; Spinach
Ketchup
Cream of Celery Soup

We have now spent a morning session at Care to Share, our referring
agency, to learn what that volunteer position will entail.  As
previously mentioned, the shift would be 9am-noon every other Monday.
It is a sit down position taking calls as they come in for appointments
for all of the pantries Care to Share services.  They have developed a
guide volunteers can use that explains the computer entries the
volunteer completes.  If you have some basic computer skill and can give some time to this important endeavor even once a month, please call Linda Smith at 503-860-6696 or e-mail:
smithder@teleport.com.">smithder@teleport.com.

And thank you always for any way you can help serve our neighbors in need.

TLC News:

July 5, 2015

We've served 18 families in The Lord's Cupboard this past Saturday and are seriously depleted in some of our supplies.  Of greatest need right now is Peanut Butter.  We have only 8 left total!  We also have no Chicken Noodle Soup, a great favorite.  And the rest of the list of
items are in serious shortage on the shelves:

Peanut Butter
Chicken Noodle Soup
Canned Fruit:  Pineapple; Mandarins; Pears
Canned Vegetables:  Whole Kernel Corn; Spinach; Beets
Ketchup
Cold Cereals
Bath Soap Bars

As always we appreciate anything you are able to contribute.  We are
open to serve on our regular schedule Saturday, July 4, as there is no
vacation from those in need.  Anything you are able to do to replenish
these supplies or contribute is helping your neighbors in need.  And we thank you all for the prayers, in kind donations, and financial support you provide.

Jun 21 at 1:55 PM

The Lord's Cupboard served 17 households this past Saturday and, needless to say probably, our list of resupply needs is lengthy.  One of our greatest needs now is for Peanut Butter since we have worked down the plentiful supply we had received in Dec. 2014.

Peanut Butter
Meal helpers:  Hamburger, Chicken (highest), and Tuna
Chicken Noodle Soup
Ramen Noodles of all kinds
Canned fruits:  Mandarin Oranges; Pineapple, and Peaches
Hearty Soups
Canned Chili and Chef Boyardee meals
Canned Vegetables:  Whole Kernel Corn and Spinach
Macaroni and Cheese
Canned Pinto Beans
Dried Beans:  especially Red, Black and Pinto

Your donations are making a difference.  We see it every time someone comes to shop with us and is so grateful to get food they need in order to feed their families.  We'd love to have you join our team of enthusiastic volunteers but we are appreciative of all you provide.  If you would like to be in touch with us please feel free to e-mail or call:

TLC Update:  June 21, 2015

Canned Fruits:  Pineapple, Mandarin Oranges, Pears, Mixed Fruit
Dried Beans (in 1lb packages):  Garbanzo, Pinto, White, and Red
Canned Beans:  Garbanzos and White Beans
Condensed Soups:  Chicken Noodle, Bean with Bacon, Tomato

keeping us supplied when you can.
